Is Trauma Your Comfort Zone?

No Really Though. Is it?

Let me share a story with you.

One of my clients (who gave me permission to share this) was in a negative, abusive marriage for many years. However, because she was in the marriage for such a long time, she got used to the way things were and that was her normal.

Then, once she made the decision to divorce and started dating again, she met a man that was kind, loving, stable, healthy, etc.

And Guess What?

She freaked out!

Because trauma was her comfort zone for so many years, she started picking fights with this new partner, creating chaos, etc. basically doing whatever she could to get back to a traumatic comfort zone. The healthiness of her new relationship freaked her out because she was so used to being abused.

Is this you? Whether its a new healthier job you want to have, a relationship, a new workout regime...are you struggling to get out of a traumatic comfort zone?

The thing about traumatic comfort zones is they usually stem from a dysfunctional situation during childhood. A child has to survive so they have no choice but to be exposed to a traumatic comfort zone if that is what their parent/caretaker chooses.

However, if you're reading this, that is no longer true. As my client and I discussed, you now have the power to create your own comfort zone. One that's built on beauty and joy and love and not negativity and abuse. One that helps you to grow and doesn't hold you back.
