Can People Change?
DO YOU WANT TO BE EVIDENCE THAT YOU CAN CHANGE OR EVIDENCE THAT YOU CANT CHANGE?
My mom used to say all the time “When people show you who they are, believe them.”
My problem with this quote is it leaves out the part where people can change. Sorry Mom.
From my experience, it seems people change when they have a) the will to change and b) they have the right tools to do so.
Since we only get one life, do you want to be evidence that you can change or do you want to be evidence that you can’t change?
For myself, I know change is possible because I’m living proof.
For example, I wouldn’t really define myself as an anxious person anymore but holy hell was there a time when my anxiety defined me.
I remember being in the fourth grade and throwing up and having to take all kinds of medication before any sort of performance. I would work myself up to the point of being sick and then wake up every morning dreading the anxiety I would face. Every doctor visit from that time has me being labeled as “anxious.”
Years later and putting in the will power and the tools to overcome it, today I don’t think many including myself would define me as an anxious person. It’s just not there for me anymore. It was never who I truly was.
So for you and your wounds (because we all have them), are you proof that you can change?
If so, how? If not yet, what would you like to change?
I’m dying to know.
